Photo Shoot with Stephanie

Since I’m in school for photography, I’ve been trying to get in as much practice as I can. If there is anything I’ve heard preach when you’re getting into this field is, practice, practice, practice. So when a friend of my husband and mine and also Miss Muddy Roots 2013, Stephanie, was coming into town, I asked if she’d model for me.

Stephanie won the title of Miss Muddy Roots at the 2013 Muddy Roots Music Festival my husband puts on in Cookeville, Tenn. Stephanie is such a beauty and has a winning personality to go along too. She is such a lovely person to be around and is a huge animal lover like me!

Stephanie did her styling herself and did such a great job posing. Below are the photos from our session. Look at that smile! 🙂

In the Springtime of his Voodoo

“If we had no winter, the Spring would not be so pleasant.” ~ Anne Bradstreet

Spring brings so many things: rebirth, warmth and unfortunately allergies. What I’ve noticed though is that it brings great photo opportunities. I think every season offers this but Spring is a little extra special because of all the lush colors that come after rain has replenished the earth and everything blooms. It’s sensory overload to someone that is looking at things through a camera lens. 🙂 Spring casts it’s spell on us and we are drunk on the colors, the things that have blossomed and everything the earth is offering at this time.

My dear friend Amy of And How! Imaging visited me recently to give me a quick lesson in studio lighting and of course I couldn’t resist this photo opportunity. She looked like Spring itself with her dress and accessories and it was such a perfect day weather-wise. Below are our Springtime session portraits I took of her; some with the use of my new lighting equipment! 🙂

Photo Shoot with Amy of And How! Imaging

The lyrics, “I get by with a little help from my friends,” rings true for this recent photo shoot with my gal pal, Amy. She is an established photographer and owns her own photography business with her husband, And How! Imaging. You may be familiar with their work since I’ve blogged about photo shoots with these creative people. This time the camera was turned on Amy and I was the photographer. Amy is very knowledgeable and oozes talent in her own work.

I recently enrolled in the New York Institute of Photography and I’m currently taking an intensive course in portrait photography. So just like any school program, this one has photo assignments after each unit. I asked Amy if she would be my “willing model” and she agreed to my delight. I had a specific assignment to accomplish with these photos. Amy was such a natural (as I knew she would be) and below are a few photos from the photo shoot. Amy has been a big help with giving me great photography advice. If you’re getting into a hobby or field, it’s always nice to have someone you can bounce questions off of and to give you the dos and don’ts. I’ve truly gotten by so far with Amy’s guiding hand while I’m in school.

Trying out a little tintype editing. I hope some time down the road learn the real deal 🙂

Snowfall in March

snow day3

There’s something about snow that seems so magical. It covers the earth in this silent and glistening blanket. Although I am not a huge fan of cold weather, I do love a good snowfall. The kind you wake up to and it seems to make the earth quieter. It’s one thing I miss about living in the mountains.

Recently, my little corner of the earth received a hefty dose of beautiful snow and I told my husband we were going outside to play in it later. He may have been reluctant at first (he’s from California where the sun is always shining) but once we were in it with the pups, his hesitation melted away. We grabbed our camera and released the hounds (our two dogs) and had a merry time photographing this rare occurrence of this weather in March and where we live.

Below are the photos. As you can see, we wore our fancy plaid 🙂

A Beautiful Little Fool

935

What do you do when you stay in a gorgeous historic hotel that makes any 1800s-lover’s dreams come true? Why you set up a photoshoot! There was no question about that when my husband and I recently stayed in the historic Linden Row Inn in Richmond, VA. This exquisite piece of history possessed all the Victorian beauty our hearts desired. We were pretty much convinced this could easily be our home. Below are a few photos taken during our stay. I wish we had time to take more of the room and around the hotel but we were always on the go while we were in Richmond. The majority were taken in the majestic window with me standing on the window seat. That window tugged at my heart strings 🙂

Check out the few photos of the boudoir. When I saw the final product of the photos, they stirred my affection for many lines from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. 🙂

“Why didn’t you tell me that if the girl had been worth having she’d have waited for you? No sir, the girl really worth having won’t wait for anybody”

“Life is much more successfully looked at from a single window.”

“You see I usually find myself among strangers because I drift here and there trying to forget the sad things that happened to me.”

Bonus photo:
Here is a photo I snapped and posted on my Instagram. You can get an idea on why I was so drunk on love with this place. 🙂
